City of Thomaston
The City of Thomaston hosts the Emancipation Proclamation Celebration held each May. This local event is the nation's oldest and longest running Emancipation celebration and includes keynote speeches, a parade and a candlelight prayer service for the community.
According to 2000 Census, the City of Thomaston had a population of 9,411 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population increase of 3.1%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%.
